The current generation of American adults residing in the Southern U.S. may not live as long as their parents given the high incidence of overweight and obesity. Alarmingly, the Southern U.S. has been the hardest hit region.
African American adults comprise a large population segment in the South. Unfortunately, they are the most overweight people in the south, in America, and in the entire world. 82% of African American Adult Women and 69% of African American Adult Men are overweight.
Everyday, African American adults and their children are exposed to twice as many TV commercials that promote poor quality foods and beverages in comparison to their white counterparts.
